FilmCAD 2010

I teach a paper at Unitec officially called “LAND 7230 CAD Studio” however it’s more affectionately  known as Film CAD. I’ve been teaching this paper for over 10 years now! Students have 3 major hand-ins; a story board, draft video, and the final video. While doing the paper, students get a crash course in film theory, green screen compositing (shot @ Sunset) and learn various software packages including Vue Infinite and Finalcut Studio. Each student is responsible for their own video (I tried group projects once, never again) and they have to do it in one semester. If your keen on seeing the results of all this (18 in total) you can go to Youtube or watch them below (at the end of the first clip there should be a menu with the rest);

The T.V Club? What’s all this about then?

As I wandered aimlessly through an extremely unassuming day last week, I was suddenly set upon by a crazed loon, who assaulted me with a 1GB Flashdrive and then fled.  I thanked the lord it wasn’t one of those 8GB monsters, they can do serious damage to a fragile USB port!  Upon examination of the contents of the flashdrive, I found a garbled message, which initially I found difficult to decipher. However, once I found a translator of the language ‘English’, I broke the code, and here is the sobering result…

It’s back.

Sunset turns two!

It’s our birthday! This time 2 years ago the Sunset crew were busily preparing for our opening night. Setting up tables and chairs, organizing catering, booze, and a big sound system. We had spent 6 months building the studio, so for us it was a really big deal. Since then we’ve had a lot people though the place and Sunset has become a well known player in the local industry. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the film makers that have used the studio, and all those that have helped us out with the fit out and day to day running of the place, without you we wouldn’t be here today. Happy Birthday Sunset!
